How
do you get heaven?
This is a question many people ask. Perhaps you've asked it. Or maybe you have asked, "How can I find peace in my life? How can I stop this pain in my life? How can I improve my marriage? How can I improve the relationships in my life? Why am I here?"
Maybe someone has told you about Jesus. Maybe they have told you that He will solve all of your problems, like some spiritual drug you can take that will heal you or put you on a permanent high. Perhaps they have told you to repeat words after them, a special prayer, and that if you say them you will be saved, and everything in your life will be better. Maybe you did that, and nothing changed. The world was still the world and you were still you.
If this has been your experience, you are, unfortunately, not alone. Some treat Jesus as the ultimate drug that can be acquired by saying some "magic" words. Many who "sell" Christ do it for their own glory, so they can claim to have brought so many people to the Lord.
So what can Jesus REALLY do for you? He can give you hope, joy and peace in your life in spite of what is happening around you. Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. He can give you the power of love. Romans 5:5. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
And yes, Christ can get you into heaven. In fact, Christ is the ONLY way you can get into heaven. John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
God spoke through Paul in Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. God in His infinite grace gave His Son as a sacrifice for our sins, so that we may be saved from the penalty of death. That penalty is for our sins. But it is through our faith that we receive His grace. But how do we get THAT faith that can save us?
First of all, we cannot have faith in anything in which we do not have some knowledge. To know Christ, we have to read the Bible. In His word we can get to know Him. When we begin to know Him, then we have to make Him Lord of our lives. That is, He must be the top priority in our lives, the very purpose for all of our actions. Our desire should be to please Him. We don't just CALL Him Lord, but we MAKE Him Lord! Our faith results in actions.
